CMS (Content Management System)

A CMS is the admin panel that lets you change your website's text, photos and pages yourself, without writing code and without calling a developer.

CMS (Content Management System) in practice

CMS stands for Content Management System. It is the password-protected admin area of the website, where you update text, images, prices, blog posts or projects without touching the code. It can be a general-purpose platform used by a huge number of different sites, or a custom CMS built around the content of that specific website.

For a business it means independence: the dish of the day, a new service or a seasonal offer go online in minutes, without waiting for the developer. A website you cannot update ages quickly, and outdated information hurts both customer trust and SEO.

An example from our work: for Claudia Loperto Architetto we built a custom CMS that lets the architect add projects, floor plans and videos herself. When she publishes, the site updates itself. Together with the site we delivered a user manual, so she does not have to remember every step by heart.

Before choosing, ask yourself who will update the website and what will really change. General-purpose platforms offer lots of features, but they need constant updates to extensions and themes which, if neglected, become a security risk. A custom CMS shows only the fields you need, so it is harder to make mistakes. Either way, insist on your own login, a regular backup and a short training session.
