Private area

A private area is the part of a website or web app that can only be reached by logging in, where clients or staff find their own data and documents.

Private area in practice

A private area is a section protected by a username and password. Whoever logs in sees only what concerns them: their own orders, documents, appointments or messages. It can be aimed at clients, at internal staff or at both, with different permissions.

It moves online the exchanges that today go through emails, phone calls and lost attachments. Clients download an invoice or a report themselves, staff check up-to-date procedures, and you answer fewer repetitive requests. It is also a way to offer a more polished service without adding to your workload.

In the software we built for nutritionists, NutriMi Bene, each patient has a personal portal with their meal plan, shopping list, food diary and recommended products. The professional updates the plan and the patient finds it ready on their phone.

A private area often holds personal data, so security comes first: an active SSL certificate, strong passwords, secure account recovery and clear permissions. Keep the GDPR in mind too and collect only the data you need. Finally, keep it simple: if logging in takes five steps, clients will go back to messaging you on WhatsApp.
